Have Fun Bringing to Life Your Most Useless, Random Idea at Our

Want to build a robot that’s sole purpose is to turn itself off? An app that would be better uninstalled than installed on your phone? An edible art piece intended to be preserved for all of time? Participate in HackTheU’s first-ever Useless Invention Hackathon!

This hackathon provides an opportunity for you to showcase your creativity and work your technical skills in a more casual setting, compared to larger hackathons. This is your chance to get exposed to HackTheU’s hackathon culture and build connections in the community.

Need more convincing? Check out Simone Giertz’s talk on why you should make useless things.

UTA Transportation

We highly encourage the use of the UTA TRAX system, which is free for most university students (including University of Utah students with the use of your UCard).

The Frontrunner, Bus Route 201, and Bus Route 218 (exit at South Jordan Station) will take you directly in front of the Lucid offices. This is an ideal option for those who cannot drive, and those who prefer more eco-friendly transportation alternatives. Please be aware the Frontrunner only runs once per hour on weekends, but does provide on-board wifi and tables.

For University of Utah students, we recommend the following departure schedule:

1. Board Daybreak-Bound Red Line from any of the following stations:
University Medical Center @ 9:42 AM
Fort Douglas Station @ 9:43 AM
University South Campus @ 9:45 AM
Stadium Station @ 9:48 AM

2. Transfer to South-Bound Frontrunner at Murray Central Station @ 10:16 AM, departing at 10:21 AM

3. Exit at South Jordan Station @ 10:30 am.

For your return trip, we recommend the following schedule:

1. Board North-Bound Frontrunner at South Jordan Station @ 8:29 PM

2. Transfer to Medical-Bound Red Line at Murray Central Station @ 8:39 PM, departing at 8:44 PM

3. Arrive at University of Utah by 9:20 PM.
