Have Fun Bringing to Life Your Most Useless, Random Idea at Our

Want to build a robot that’s sole purpose is to turn itself off? An app that would be better uninstalled than installed on your phone? An edible art piece intended to be preserved for all of time? Participate in HackTheU’s first-ever Useless Invention Hackathon!

This hackathon provides an opportunity for you to showcase your creativity and work your technical skills in a more casual setting, compared to larger hackathons. This is your chance to get exposed to HackTheU’s hackathon culture and build connections in the community.

Need more convincing? Check out Simone Giertz’s talk on why you should make useless things.

Please note this event is for university students only and is open to all university student outside of the University of Utah. This event will be capped at around 100 participants, with registration done in a first-come, first-serve style. The registration form will close upon hitting capacity.
